What The Fresh Heck Have I Done?
Hey howdy hey!
Its happenin' now, baby.
When I joined Facebook back in... eeee... some time ago, the first thing I noticed was that it seemed to be full of posts from people just talking about stuff. What sucked today, work sucks, my dinner is yummy (and here's a picture to prove it!), my dinner was awful, my cat's breath smells like cat food... and on and on.
As one who cares little to be like everyone else, I knew that if I was going to post anything it would (hopefully) be funny, be different. Then I thought, "damn I'm hungry" and made a pb and j sandwich. Afterwards I then thought, "what could I do?" Then I remembered - puns. Having long loved puns it was a perfect marriage of bad humor and media. So I began posting puns of my own creation - wanting to be different meant not rehashing puns that were already floating around the net - regularly. At first they were short and sweet, but as time wore on I expanded the puns a little bit, engaging the reader into mini-stories before dropping the pun at the end. It was working.
About 5 years ago, the inkling of doing a book came up, through friends and family that had suggested that maybe the puns could be collected. It sat there in my mind until I copied all of the puns into a Word document and realized that there was probably enough material to make a book. So I started the task of rewriting them all from the start, expanding the earliest from one or two sentences to a story of 7 to 8 sentences. Upon completion, I had well over 60 pages and began the journey. I hooked up with the good people at Friesen Press and they helped me through the process - planning the cover, the layout, editing, and so on.
And now, here we are - the advent of the most exciting project I have ever undertaken, a book full of my personal work, out amongst the masses worldwide.
Yikes.
I don't know what's going to happen, and if you know me at all you know how that thrills me to no end (and if you don't - sarcasm, meet new friend. New friend, meet sarcasm). Will it be successful or a Hindenburg-level failure? Will I be all Hollywood now? Will Timmy make it out of the well?
I'm scared. I'm nervous. I'm excited. And I'm where I should be, finally.
Happy trails,
Lloyd
